Registry Information:

Harlequins can be registered as followed:

Purebred:  These are harlequins whose pedigree can be traced back to the Kathleen's original line (Black Sheep Farm) or the Paradise Valley line that came from Kathleen's and are 3rd generation AND/OR 4th generation Foundation harlequins that meet the standards as set forth.

Harlequins will be registered as foundation purebred. F, F1, F2, FP, A, B, C..We choose to use the letters because this allows for improvement in the breed throughout the course of the registry.

Foundation Status:
F1= one or both parents are foundation harlequins or one foundation and one is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.
F2= one or both parents are F1 or one parent is F1 and the other parent is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.
FP= Means Foundation Pure, one or both parents are F2 or one parent is F2 and the other parent is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.

True Harlequins:
At this point they should be breeding true and should look like a true harlequin.
A= One or both parents are FP or one parent is FP and the other parent is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.
B= One or both parents are A or one parent is A and the other parent is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.
C= One or both parents are B or one parent is B and the other parent is a harlequin that is higher in the registration process.

At this point they are true harlequins and are breeding true consistently and have all of the qualities that we are looking for in our Harlequins and are then registered as pure harlequins.

Unknown parents that possess the qualities of a harlequin will be registered as foundation. Once the ewe/ram shows proven offspring it can be upgraded. Sheep of known harlequin background but do not possess the spots but carry them will be registered as such.

REGISTRY IS NOW OPEN!
DO YOU ALREADY HAVE HARLEQUINS,
Black sheep farm was the original breeder of harlequin sheep. At this time we would like to locate more of Kathleen's sheep and get them into the registry.
KATHLEEN spent over 20 years producing this very unique multi purpose, colorful, calm, hardy sheep.    If you have gotten sheep from Kathleen or feel you have a sheep that could be harlequin.   We want to hear from you.   This registry will offer a open registry for a few years until we can assure good solid bloodlines have been established.
The American Harlequin Sheep Registry was established to recognize, preserve and provide a registry for The American Harlequin Sheep.    AMHSR is  a privately owned registry whose goal is to provide educational,  quality registry service and to promote the Harlequin sheep.
The registry will also be used to provide ways to improve the breed and continue to refine the breed and its characteristics.
